Vintage washboard.

SORRY, THIS ITEM IS SOLD !

These types of washboards were invented in America, which is why most of the vintage washboards you see nowadays on the market are sold from the USA. The first patent for a metal washboard was submitted on 9th February 1833 by a man named S. Rust.

During WWII, washboards were made of wood and glass, due to the shortage of metal.

This board is made of wood and galvanized metal. It shows some signs of use, for example traces of soap on it.The wood is in good condition, with a few stains here and there. The legs do not show many signs of use. The nails are rusted, so one of the wooden boards is a bit loose. See the video (after the photos).

How to use your washboard ? Put it into a tub full of water (you will then need to rub your clothes with a soap) or water with laundry detergent. And then... here is a video that I found, where a little girl explains the secrets of the traditional washboard.
